What did you do this past week?

I’ve mainly just been chillin’ for this class after finishing up with phase 1. It’s been nice to have time to focus on other classes, especially since my math homework has been taking up a lot of time recently. Math and extra curriculars have been my main priority this past week, but the extra curriculars are starting to wind down a little which is good since I don’t know how much longer I would have been able to keep doing everything at the same time. And actually doing everything wasn’t so bad, what was annoying was trying to schedule times for it all.

What’s in your way?

I’ve been a bit sleep deprived, which has been making me want to go to class and do homework less. I took more naps last week than previously but still felt tired :(

What will you do next week?

I’ll be getting more sleep hopefully and trying to do things ahead of time, but I might just end up waiting until spring break to reset my daily schedule. As for spring break itself, I’ll be going back home (to Corpus Christi) and I’ll probably just sleep the whole time. Maybe I’ll take a trip to the beach if the weather’s nice and there aren’t too many tourists around. Our group will be meeting for phase 2 next week but we probably won’t get much done during spring break besides some minor remote development. We made good use of issues and slack last time, so we might be able to make a dent in it despite not meeting.

What was your experience of Project #2: IDB1?

I enjoyed it though it was a bit basic. It was good to have it as phase 1 though because anything more might have been overwhelming. I’m excited for phase 2 since we actually get to work on the backend a bit more.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

My pick of the week is doctest. It’s a really good and lightweight unit testing framework for C++. I’ve been using it for a couple years now and it’s helped me get more into writing unit tests. I don’t actually use it how it’s recommended, by writing tests next to the code, but having a well-supported framework has been invaluable in keeping the tests up to date.
